Original mixed media painting using acrylic, oil and urethane over white paint and metal from the Original Hollywood Sign. Bill Mack renders his image in the "photo-realism genre," based on photographic reference. Bill mack re-proportions, adjusts/adds color, contracts and/or otherwise modifies the image as he deems necessary in his photo-realism paintings. The metal panel is restored by the artist to carefully preserve the 55 years of paint, rust and other defects that show the age and character of the metal he uses as his canvas. The images are enlarged and drawn, or transferred digitally for positioning on metal from the Original Hollywood Sign, and then hand-painted by the artist. The metal panel is mounted on a rigid backing and the original holes in the metal were re-bored. As a final step, the painting was aged with an oil based toner, and preserved with clear urethane.
