“Summertime” by Sheila and Ron Ruiz is a dynamic, multi-butterfly bronze sculpture created using the traditional lost-wax casting process. The piece begins as a hand-sculpted clay original in which Ruiz builds each butterfly individually, shaping their gesture, movement, and balance. From this clay master, molds are made and each bronze is poured, hand-chased, refined, and finished with Ruiz’s signature patina and enamel techniques.
This composition features 24 individually sculpted butterflies, arranged in a sweeping, uplifting motion reminiscent of sunlight and warm air rising at the start of a summer day. Each butterfly carries its own character and coloration, creating a vibrant display of energy and elegance.
